Nosebands
There are special riding halters or nosebands which are worn by the horse underneath the bridle. Always ensure that the noseband isn’t too tight, otherwise it can cut off the horse’s air supply. You should leave around 3 centimetres of space between the nose and noseband. The noseband’s main purpose is to support the horse’s lower jaw and prevent it from resisting the rider’s aids by opening its mouth. There are different types of nosebands: the cavesson noseband, the flash noseband (which consists of a cavesson plus an extra strap running under the chin), the crank noseband, the Swedish cavesson and the grackle noseband.
