Horse bridles

Horse bridles, such as snaffle bridles and curb bridles, are bridles with bits that go into the horse’s mouth to communicate the rider’s hand aids to it. The bits are made of different materials, depending on their purpose, such as stainless steel or iron, rubber, foam rubber and leather.

Horse bridles have the purpose of ‘control’ and it is recommended that both beginners and advanced riders use them. The snaffle bridle has a bit with a metal mouthpiece and a ring on each end to which the reins are affixed. The length and weight of the mouthpiece varies and should fit the horse’s mouth as exactly as possible. Snaffle bits differ in terms of design and severity, and can have a solid, single jointed or a double jointed mouthpiece.

The curb bit, in contrast, has two shanks on each end to which the rings are attached. The reins are attached to the bottom rings and the bridle cheekpieces are attached to the top rings. A chin strap applies further pressure by pressing the horse’s lower jaw between the mouthpiece and the curb chain. The curb bridle should only be used by experienced riders because it multiplies the pressure applied by the rider to the bit and rough use can cause pain to the horse. However, because very precise pressure can be applied, it is suitable for riders holding the reins in one hand. You will find a wide range of horse bridles in our online shop at horze.de!
